ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a mixed-media, image-based artist.
I combine the oldest photo processes (cyanotype, Van Dyke brown) with new media (digital negatives) and handmade marks (painting, scribbling). I juxtapose and layer imagery. Combined with the spontaneity of using unpredictable media, these elements create a dance with process that I crave. One step leads to the next. Cyanotype is exposed in the sun using contact negatives, then washed, and sometimes toned and recoated. I also incorporate a variety of image-transfer processes using different mediums (alcohol, Purell, acrylic medium) to transfer inks from a digital transparency to paper, wood, and fabric. Sometimes I’m inspired by found objects like wood dollhouse furniture and rusty bed springs. For me, everything is source material.
